A concerned netizen has gone viral on Facebook after revealing how she was duped by a friend who used artificial intelligence tools—specifically ChatGPT—to create fake bank transaction screenshots.
According to her post, the scammer was a former classmate who owed her money and appeared to have repaid the debt by sending screenshots of multiple bank transfers. Trusting the sender, she did not verify the payments right away.
“After ko mag-out of the country and inaudit ko, walang pumasok,” she wrote, adding, “One failed transaction is pwede pa pero 5 transactions? No!”
She admitted it was her mistake not to double-check sooner. “Dapat chineck ko mabuti. Nasa galaan kasi ako niyan… kakilala ko ‘yung nagsend so tiwala pa ako.”
The shock came when she later discovered there were no actual transactions made, and the images were fabricated using ChatGPT.
“Come on! I found out that AI, ChatGPT, can be used for fraud and bad faith!” she wrote in frustration, even sharing a sample prompt she had used to test how easily such an image could be generated.
She also revealed that the same person had reportedly tricked other classmates using similar tactics.
As a final warning to others, she urged: “Mag-ingat kayo, always check if pumasok ba sa account niyo yung transaction.”
