Netflix has unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for ‘Replacing Chef Chico,’ marking its first Filipino-produced series.
The show features renowned actors Piolo Pascual, Alessandra de Rossi, and Sam Milby. Alessandra de Rossi stars as Ella, a sous chef thrust into the limelight to save the esteemed restaurant, Hain, from shutting down. The trailer highlights the challenges she faces in her career and hints at a budding romance with Piolo Pascual’s character.
Viewers can also expect an array of Filipino dishes showcased throughout the series. As Ella poignantly says in the trailer, “Dito sa Hain, hindi lang basta pagkain ang aming ihahanda, kundi pagkaing hain sa kwento mo,” emphasizing the close connection between food and personal stories.
The trailer’s release generated a surge of enthusiasm online. Fans expressed their excitement, with comments like “Excited for this!!! A first in the Philippines!” and “OMG PH food drama!”
The brains behind the series are Director Dan Villegas, Assistant Director Joi Bayan, and Showrunner Antoinette Jadaone. The latter spoke about the series at Netflix’s “See What’s Next” event in September. “It’s perfect for the Christmas season,” Jadaone said. “Each episode tells a story of family, friendship, and love, all celebrated over food.”
She also stressed the significance of spotlighting Filipino cuisine. “It’s about time that Filipino food gets its proper spotlight,” Jadaone told PhilStar. She hopes the series will be a tribute to Filipino culture and its culinary delights.
‘Replacing Chef Chico’ is set to debut on Netflix on November 24. The series is a collaboration between Netflix, CS Studios, and Project8.
