Netflix to hike subscription rates in the Philippines starting June 1 due to new digital tax

Filipino Netflix users will soon be paying more for their streaming subscriptions as the company announced price increases set to take effect on June 1, 2025. The adjustments come in response to the implementation of Republic Act No. 12023, a law signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in October last year that mandates a 12% value-added tax (VAT) on foreign digital service providers operating in the Philippines.

As of May 6, Netflix reflected the new rates on its Help Center and sign-up page, while existing subscribers began receiving email notifications about the changes. The updated monthly prices are as follows: Mobile plan now costs P169 (from P149), Basic is P279 (from P249), Standard jumps to P449 (from P399), and Premium climbs to P619 (from P549). Charges for extra member slots under Standard and Premium plans also rise to P169, up from P149.

The price hike aligns with the start of tax collections from international tech and streaming firms under the new law. Other platforms like Disney+, Prime Video, Max, Spotify, and Apple Music are also expected to follow suit and update their pricing structures ahead of the law’s enforcement.

According to the Department of Finance, the digital VAT law could generate an estimated P102.12 billion in government revenue between 2025 and 2028.
