NBI arrests three linked to hacking PH government websites

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) apprehended three suspects on Friday for allegedly hacking multiple government websites. Information revealed through a report by Allan Gatus on Super Radyo dzBB indicates that scripts and databases from local government units and other national websites were compromised.

The entities targeted included the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, and the National Security Agency. The suspects, identified as members of the hacking group LulzSec, also allegedly accessed data and security credentials from around five banks.

The NBI has charged the trio under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and the Data Privacy Act of 2012. NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed the affiliation of the suspects to LulzSec, while NBI cybercrime chief Jeremy Lontoc disclosed their backgrounds: one is a data officer at a media organization, another a cybersecurity researcher, and the third a graduating student.
