The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) confirmed on Thursday that it is probing reports regarding National IDs discovered in a garbage disposal area in Barangay Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
Initial posts on social media stated that approximately 100 national IDs were located in the said garbage site.
In a released statement, the PSA noted its intention to collaborate with the Philippine Postal Corporation throughout the investigation.
The agency was keen to stress that “this is an isolated case.” It further reassured the public, emphasizing that “the privacy and security of the data of PhilSys-registered persons is of the highest priority.”
They also mentioned that rigorous protocols have always been in place concerning the distribution of PhilIDs and ePhilIDs.
