Senator Nancy Binay expressed her concern regarding showbiz personality Mariel Rodriguez receiving intravenous glutathione at her husband Senator Robinhood Padilla’s office in the Senate. Binay, chairperson of the Senate Ethics Committee, stated, “I’m not sure if the Ethics Committee can extend its jurisdiction dito sa nangyaring insidente since hindi naman member ng Senado si Ms. Mariel. But we also need to closely look into it because it involves issues of conduct, integrity, and reputation of the Institution and matters that concern health and safety.”
Binay highlighted the troubling aspect of the IV procedure being conducted inside the Senate premises without prior notice from the clinic. She emphasized, “Nakaka-bother lang dahil yung IV procedure was done inside the Senate premises na walang abiso mula sa clinic.”
Rodriguez’s social media post, which has since been removed, depicted her receiving the treatment with Padilla in the background. In her caption, Rodriguez mentioned the benefits of the procedure and its convenience, prompting concerns from health authorities.
Binay referenced the Department of Health’s (DOH) warning about the health risks associated with IV glutathione, stating, “‘Yung gluta drip ay ni-declare na mismo ng DOH na unsafe, banned ng FDA, and it was administered outside the clinic without the proper medical advice from a licensed health professional.”
She urged public figures to be mindful of their responsibility to the public, especially in promoting legal and safe practices. “As public figures, sana aware din tayo sa responsabilidad natin sa publiko. We might be promoting something na ipinagbabawal at iligal, at akala ng mga tao eh okey lang,” she emphasized.
In response, Senator Padilla dismissed the criticisms, stating that his wife had no intention of disrespecting anyone and was merely advocating for good health and appearance. “Nakakatawa naman po ang political isyu na ‘yan. My goodness. Kung may nakita po silang masama sa larawan na ‘yan. Paumanhin po. No intention of disrespect,” Padilla remarked.
