Travelers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport with bookings to or from the Middle East have been placed on notice, with airport authorities cautioning that schedules are vulnerable to sudden changes as airspace restrictions ripple across the region.
New NAIA Infra Corp. issued the advisory Saturday, citing precautionary airspace closures in parts of the Middle East that have left flights susceptible to delays, rerouting, or cancellation at short notice depending on how individual airlines respond to the evolving situation. The disruptions stem from the military escalation triggered by US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which prompted retaliatory missile launches across the Gulf and forced multiple countries to shut or restrict their airspace.
Passengers were told to verify their flight status before leaving for the airport and to contact their carrier directly for the most current information. Updating personal contact details with airlines was also flagged as essential, to ensure that notifications about any changes reach travelers in time.
Those going to the airport to meet arriving passengers were similarly advised to confirm actual arrival times with the relevant airline before making the trip, as inbound schedules remain subject to change.
NAIC said it was coordinating with airlines and aviation authorities to keep operations at the airport safe and orderly throughout the disruption. Further updates were promised as conditions develop.
