The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced on Tuesday that it has completed the electrical system upgrades at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
According to a news release, the second phase of the upgrade, which began in early April, was finalized on May 28. This phase is part of a larger project that started last year to enhance the terminal’s electrical systems.
The MIAA successfully replaced deteriorated medium-voltage switchgear components in eight electrical substations within Terminal 3. The final segment of the power-related maintenance began at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday and was completed by 3 a.m.
During the upgrade, generator sets powered Terminal 3, prioritizing critical equipment and facilities to ensure continuous passenger processing and uninterrupted flight operations.
“These electrical upgrades are important to us, and we are very happy with the conclusion, as it guarantees a more dependable electrical system for the terminal,” said MIAA general manager Eric Jose Ines.
Ines acknowledged some ongoing issues in specific areas of the terminal, such as reduced lighting in curbsides, hallways, and roadways. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time,” he added.
