Travelers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 are now privy to enhanced connectivity, as Converge’s free WiFi service was inaugurated on Tuesday. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista announced that this initiative by Converge, a leading fiber broadband provider in the Philippines, aims to extend its complimentary internet services to Terminals 1 and 2 shortly.
Bautista expressed that this advancement would significantly benefit the daily passengers, elevating NAIA’s global standards. He acknowledged Converge CEO Dennis Uy for fulfilling his commitment to provide free WiFi at the airport. Bautista also advocated for more public-private partnerships to upgrade various transportation facilities, including rail lines, bus terminals, and seaports.
This development follows Converge’s initial free WiFi roll-out at NAIA Terminal 4 in July, offering 120 minutes of free internet access. NAIA passengers also have access to similar services through telecom giants PLDT-Smart and Globe.
As the Christmas holiday season approaches, Bautista assured that NAIA is prepared for the expected surge in travelers, estimated at about 138,000 daily, mirroring the recent heavy traffic during the village and youth polls and the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. He highlighted NAIA’s 84 percent on-time performance rate during these peak periods and anticipates similar efficiency for the holiday season.
Finally, Bautista advised passengers to plan and book their flights in advance to ensure a smooth and timely travel experience.
