A security screening officer (SSO) stationed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 has been dismissed for allegedly taking chocolates from a passenger’s luggage during an inspection on September 13.
The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) issued the dismissal order on September 23, following an internal investigation prompted by a report from an OTS supervisor.
OTS spokesperson, Kim Marquez, clarified to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that despite the screener’s claim that the chocolates were given to him by the passenger, officers are prohibited from accepting any gifts or tips as per policy.
Marquez acknowledged that no complaint had been received directly from the passenger involved in the incident, but the violation of policy warranted action.
