NAIA privatization: Affected airport workers to receive pay raise and bonuses

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Thursday reassured employees affected by the privatization of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) that they will receive both salary increases and additional incentives as they transition to the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC), which will take over operations on September 14.

MIAA Spokesperson Atty. Chris Bendijo announced that personnel will be given a 25 percent increase in their basic salary along with a signing bonus. “Mayroon po silang matatanggap na signing bonus, which is two times the monthly basic salary that they have, times the number of years minus the retirement benefit,” Bendijo said in a televised briefing.

He also mentioned that affected employees will receive separation incentive pay, ensuring that those transferring to the private sector will have financial assistance as they transition.

For those not willing to move to the private concessionaire, MIAA promised to either find them positions within the agency or other government departments. “We can assure everybody that we really want to avoid iyon pong mawawalan ng trabaho,” Bendijo emphasized.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) added that 77.5 percent of MIAA employees have already agreed to the employment terms offered by NNIC. Transportation Undersecretary Roberto Lim assured that airport police and other essential personnel would remain with MIAA as organic employees.
