A newly upgraded space dedicated to overseas Filipino workers is now operating at Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 1, following a formal launch attended by senior government officials and airport leadership. The ceremony was led by First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos together with New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) president Ramon Ang, joined by Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan.
The Terminal 1 lounge marks the second OFW-exclusive facility established under NNIC, coming more than a year after the first one at Terminal 3 began serving travelers in July 2024. Since that initial opening, more than 706,000 OFWs have used the airport’s dedicated lounges.
The latest site builds on that usage by offering round-the-clock access every day of the week. Travelers may enter the lounge at no cost, regardless of their airline or ticket classification.
Inside, OFWs will find several services intended to make long airport waits more comfortable. Complimentary food and drinks are provided, along with areas for resting, secure rooms for baggage storage, and charging stations for electronic devices.
Before the Terminal 1 upgrade, the OFW lounge concept had been introduced as a joint initiative among the House of Representatives, OWWA, the DMW, and the Manila International Airport Authority.
