A recent Facebook post has gone viral after a user shared his frustrating experience with the newly implemented parking rates at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The post, which has garnered nearly 2,000 shares and 3,000 reactions, highlighted issues Davidson Tan faced while paying a staggering PHP 2,400 for parking at NAIA under the newly adjusted system.
Tan expressed his dismay, stating, “I paid P2,400. Waited almost 13 minutes in the parking booth and got these 2-inch thick receipts with P15 each denomination. Obviously hindi ito pinagisipan or pinagplanuhan. Basta basta implement agad.” He went on to criticize the inefficiency of the system, emphasizing the inconvenience caused by what he called “super premium rates with poor service.”
The Facebook user, known for his usual family-oriented and motivational posts, added, “Imagine yung hassle sa customers ninyo… look at these receipts. Kakafrustrate.” He also directed a message to business tycoon Ramon Ang, whose company San Miguel Holdings Corp. is part of the consortium managing NAIA, urging the billionaire to invest more thoughtfully, saying, “You are a billionaire sana naman mamuhunan ka muna. Wag mo kunin sa mamamayang Pilipino ang gagamitin mong pondo.”
Tan’s frustration comes in the wake of NAIA’s new parking fee structure, which took effect on October 1, 2024. The overnight parking fee for cars skyrocketed from PHP 300 to PHP 1,200, a 300% increase, which has left many passengers feeling the pinch. Short-term parking now costs PHP 50 for the first two hours, with an additional PHP 25 for every hour after that. Motorcycles and buses have also seen rate adjustments as part of ongoing modernization efforts.
The updated parking rates aim to ease parking shortages and improve facilities for airport users. However, Tan’s experience, as well as those of other social media users, suggests that the rollout may not have been smooth.
