On May 18, 2024, the Migrant Workers Office – Dubai and Northern Emirates (MWO-Dubai) conducted a Special Service event dedicated to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) employed in schools, educational institutions, and related services. The event aimed to assist these workers with various employment-related procedures before the onset of the summer break.
A total of 649 individual services were provided during the day. This included the verification of employment contracts for 190 OFWs, the registration and renewal of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) memberships for 176 workers, Social Security System (SSS) services for 183 clients, and Pag-IBIG Fund services for 100 OFWs. The event catered not only to teachers and administrative staff but also to those in transport and cleaning services associated with educational sectors.
The initiative was designed to reduce the workload on MWO-Dubai during the busier months of June to August and to allow school workers sufficient time to manage their documents before the closure of educational institutions for the summer.
The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their gratitude on platforms such as Facebook. The effort was also supported through collaborations with various Filipino community groups like Baofriend Restaurant, PICPA Dubai, Heroes Elite FBI Eagles Club, Beta Sigma Alumni Association-UAE, and Ms. Danielle Rose Uy Magsino. These groups provided food packs and donated rice for Filipina workers at MWO-Dubai’s Migrant Workers Resource Center.
This event marks the third Special Service organized by MWO-Dubai in 2024, underscoring their commitment to meet the needs of the OFW community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
