Logistics giant Aramex and the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) have commenced pilot testing for an advanced multi-cabin delivery robot in Dubai. This innovative robot, capable of serving multiple customers in a single trip, began its three-month trial today and aims to be fully operational by September.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the new multi-cabin robot is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, with projections indicating a reduction of over 500kg during the trial period. Initially, it will operate within the Cedre Villas community in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), autonomously delivering over 1,000 packages.
To ensure security, residents will receive a secure pin code for their Aramex deliveries. Additionally, a mobile outlet at Cedre Shopping Centre will monitor operations and facilitate continuous loading and unloading of parcels.
Equipped with advanced features such as a depth camera, multiple human-robot interface elements, extensive 360-degree video coverage, a swappable battery pack, and eight compartments for various parcel sizes, the robot is designed for efficiency and user convenience.
Muammar Khaled Al Katheeri, Chief Officer of Engineering and Sustainability at DIEZ, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with Dubai’s Smart City Strategy and sustainable development goals. “By introducing carbon-neutral delivery robots at DSO, we are showcasing our dedication to incorporating advanced technology for a greener future,” he stated.
Tarek Abuyaghi, General Manager of Aramex, expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting its environmental benefits and the enhanced urban living experience it promises. “We thank DIEZ for their partnership and look forward to offering residents the opportunity to experience future-centric delivery services,” he said.
The success of this pilot phase will be evaluated based on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, which will determine the future expansion of this initiative throughout Dubai. This project marks a significant step towards Dubai’s goal of converting 25% of its transportation system to autonomous mode by 2030, in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
