Motionless man in Indian village pond mistaken for dead body turns out to be drunk

A man lying motionless in a pond near Reddypuram Kovelakuntla in Hanumakonda, Telangana in India, caused a stir as police initially mistook him for a dead body. The incident, which occurred on an unspecified date, later revealed that the man was heavily intoxicated.

The man, identified as a quarry worker, remained in the pond for five hours. Local residents, upon noticing him, alerted the Kakatiya University police. Emergency medical services also responded to the scene.

A video shared by Sudhakar Udumula on X showed the shirtless man floating in the pond while a policeman attempted to pull him out. To the surprise and amusement of the onlookers, the man suddenly woke up, leading to laughter among the police and the gathered crowd.

“Residents of Reddypuram Kovelakunta in Hanumakonda were taken aback today after discovering what they initially believed to be a dead body floating in the local pond,” Udumula wrote. “The man, later identified as a quarry worker from Kavali in Nellore District, was found lying motionless in the water from 7 am to 12 pm.”

Upon regaining consciousness, the man explained to the police that he had been working 12-hour shifts in a granite quarry for the past ten days and had decided to cool off in the pond, only to fall asleep in the water due to exhaustion.

The video, shared on June 10, quickly went viral, garnering over 50,000 views and numerous humorous reactions. One viewer commented, “Watching this for the 5th time and laughing like hell. First 10 seconds are.” Another said, “Seriously. He has shown movie.”
