A 24-year-old man, tagged as the top drug suspect in Baseco, Manila, was arrested after authorities tracked him through a Facebook “My Day” post.
According to Police Lt. Col. Emmanuel Gomez, station commander of the Manila Police District – Station 13, the suspect had previously escaped a drug buy-bust operation. “He managed to get away, but we apprehended some of his cohorts and filed charges against him,” Gomez said in a Balitambayan report.
Authorities had been searching for the suspect in various locations, including Parola and Tondo, and even received reports that he had fled to the provinces.
Their breakthrough came when the suspect shared a Facebook “My Day” update that revealed his whereabouts. “He posted about being at work, and since we know this area well, we were able to track him quickly,” Gomez added.
The suspect was eventually arrested in a house near Baseco, where he had been hiding.
Investigations revealed that the suspect is allegedly a major supplier of illegal drugs in the area and is considered a high-value individual by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“Baseco is a large barangay with over 70,000 residents. Some of those we’ve arrested for selling drugs pointed to him as their source,” Gomez noted.
The suspect, however, denied the allegations, stating, “I will explain myself in court, sir.”
He remains in the custody of the Baseco Police Station as authorities await a court commitment order.
