A majority of Filipinos want the government to keep publicly exposing China’s aggressive behavior in the West Philippine Sea even as Manila takes the helm of ASEAN this year, a new Pulse Asia survey shows.
The poll, conducted February 27 to March 2 and released Friday by the We Protect Our Seas (WPS) Foundation, found that 68 percent of respondents want the government “to continue disclosing China’s coercive actions against Philippine ships and fishermen in the West Philippine Sea while it is hosting the ASEAN.” Only 28 percent were opposed, with four percent undecided.
Trust in the United States as the most reliable partner in defending Philippine sovereign rights and upholding international law in the West Philippine Sea also remained firm among respondents.
Fifty-nine percent said they want US President Donald Trump to make a visit to the Philippines during the upcoming ASEAN and East Asia Summit.
