The Philippine government has repatriated more than 20 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Israel as part of its voluntary repatriation program in response to rising tensions in the Middle East.
The repatriates were welcomed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport by officials from the Department of Migrant Workers, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and a medical team, according to a report by dzBB. Assistance such as food, transportation, financial aid, and accommodations was provided by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict, expressing concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and rising tensions in the region. Speaking at the ASEAN-East Asia Summit, he urged all parties involved to de-escalate and seek peaceful solutions.
In October, President Marcos instructed the government to mobilize all resources to ensure the safety of Filipinos in conflict zones. He emphasized readiness to evacuate affected nationals swiftly, using air and sea transport if necessary.
