President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved several special nonworking holidays across various provinces and cities to give way to local festivities and founding anniversaries, reinforcing the administration’s recognition of community pride and heritage.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed a total of 13 proclamations, all of which were made public through the Official Gazette.
On June 25, residents of Sabangan in Mountain Province and Calanasan in Apayao will enjoy a break from work as both towns mark their 62nd founding anniversaries.
July 1 is particularly packed with celebrations. Pangantucan and Maramag in Bukidnon, San Carlos City in Negros Occidental, Kibawe in Bukidnon, and Dipolog City will all observe special nonworking holidays to commemorate their respective founding and charter anniversaries, ranging from 63 to 112 years.
More holidays are slated later in the month. July 15 has been declared a nonworking day in Mauban, Quezon for the town’s Araw ng Mauban. The same date is a holiday in the Cordillera Administrative Region as it celebrates its 38th founding anniversary.
Finally, July 18 will be a special day off for residents of Digos City, Davao del Sur, in celebration of the vibrant Padigosan Festival.
The proclamations are part of the government’s effort to allow Filipinos to fully participate in local cultural events and historical commemorations.
