Filipino actor Mon Confiado has decided not to pursue legal action against a Facebook user who shared a local version of a viral “Flying Lotus copypasta,” falsely portraying him as a shoplifter in a grocery store.
Confiado revealed to PEP.ph that the user, identified as Jeff Leanneroie Bonilla Jacinto, had already apologized. Jacinto’s mother also repeatedly reached out to express regret, explaining their family’s financial struggles and inability to afford legal representation.
“Wala silang pambayad ng abogado,” Confiado noted, adding that his busy schedule also influenced his decision to forgo further legal steps. Although the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) had already issued a subpoena to Jacinto, Confiado opted not to attend the hearings.
The actor clarified that his primary goal was to raise awareness about being used unfairly in false narratives. “Ang bottom line lang naman ay makapagbigay ng awareness,” he said. He also acknowledged that pursuing the case further might do more harm than good. “Baka ako pa ang mapasama kapag ito ay tinuloy ko.”
The Facebook post in question was a localized take on a popular internet copypasta, originally involving American producer Flying Lotus. Such copypastas typically describe celebrities behaving rudely in public, often presented in a tongue-in-cheek manner to trick readers.
Despite the viral nature of the story, Confiado expressed satisfaction that the matter highlighted the consequences of spreading false information. “Nakapagbigay ng awareness, okay na ‘yun sa akin,” he said.
