The 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal upheld due process in determining its winners, according to festival spokesperson Noel Ferrer, who assured the results were “fair and final.”
Held on December 27 at the Solaire Grand Ballroom in Parañaque, the ceremony saw “Green Bones” take home six major awards, including Best Picture. Ferrer addressed concerns about the selection process in a Facebook post the following day, emphasizing the integrity of the jury.
“You may agree or disagree with their choices, but the integrity of each and every member of the jury cannot be assailed, especially on this 50th edition of the MMFF,” Ferrer wrote, adding that there were “no leaks and definitely no cooking show” involved. He noted that deliberations for the winners lasted from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the day of the ceremony.
The jury, led by UP Film Institute professor emeritus Nicanor Tiongson, included prominent figures such as FDCP chairperson Joey Reyes, actor John Arcilla, and Film Academy of the Philippines director general Paolo Villaluna, among others.
Top acting honors went to Dennis Trillo and Judy Ann Santos for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively. Kakki Teodoro was awarded Best Supporting Actress, while Ruru Madrid won Best Supporting Actor.
