The lifeless body of a 31-year-old motorcycle taxi rider was discovered buried at a construction site in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite, two weeks after he was reported missing. Authorities are now investigating jealousy as the possible motive behind the brutal killing.
The victim, identified as Jayjay Caluza, was last seen on June 24 in Trece Martires while ferrying a passenger headed to Dasmariñas. The man riding with him is reportedly the former partner of Caluza’s live-in girlfriend, Grace, and is now a person of interest in the case.
According to GMA News Online, Caluza’s remains were found at a construction site where the suspect was allegedly working as a foreman. His motorcycle’s GPS had last pinged in the same area. Police grew suspicious when construction workers were seen fleeing the site. Authorities later discovered that a backhoe had been operated during unusual hours—prompting an excavation where Caluza’s body was eventually uncovered.
Grace revealed in an interview with GMA’s 24 Oras Weekend that the suspect forcibly took her and their child three days prior to Caluza’s disappearance. “Binantaan niya po si Jayjay na papatayin kung hindi daw po ako sumama, kaya sumama na po ako,” she said, visibly shaken. She added that the suspect had previously hinted that his cousins might help him harm Jayjay if she refused to leave him.
Based on the Scene of the Crime Operatives’ (SOCO) findings, Caluza sustained 12 stab wounds—four to the chest and eight to the back. His mother, Carmelita Caluza, was devastated. “Talagang parang ginawa nilang hayop ang anak ko,” she cried. “Napakabait ng anak ko. Bakit mo ginawa ‘to?”
Naic Police Deputy Chief, Captain Grenie Dolnagon, confirmed that they are pursuing multiple persons of interest. “Actually marami po kaming nakausap diyan, ‘yun nga lang iisa ang sinasabi—na hindi nila kilala, hindi nila alam, isang linggo lang sila na nakatira doon,” he told GMA News.
