Migratory Bryde’s whale spotted near Fujairah port

A Bryde’s whale, estimated to be 9 to 10 meters long, was recently sighted near the Port of Fujairah, the Fujairah Environment Authority (FEA) announced. The migratory whale’s presence prompted swift action to ensure both its safety and uninterrupted port operations.

Specialist teams from the FEA, the Port of Fujairah, and the Fujairah Research Centre were deployed to monitor the whale and guide it back to its migratory path. Medical evaluations conducted with support from Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Centre confirmed that the whale is healthy and does not require medical intervention.

Fujairah, known for its vibrant marine ecosystem, hosts five marine reserves and supports diverse species, making it a significant stopover for migratory animals. Experts believe the rich waters attracted the Bryde’s whale, highlighting the region’s role in marine conservation.

The whale’s appearance has also been included in the Whales and Dolphins book, part of the Natural History Books series by the FEA, which underscores the importance of protecting marine habitats.
