Internationally renowned Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco, known for dressing celebrities like Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, recently sat down with TV host Jessica Soho for an exclusive interview, revealing a personal detail—why he is often seen wearing large shades.
During the interview, Michael explained that his habit of wearing oversized sunglasses stems from a severe vertigo attack he suffered years ago. “I had a very severe vertigo attack, akala ko mamamatay na ako. My doctor advised me to avoid bright lights,” he shared.
Though he joked that his shades also help him stay composed in front of clients, saying, “’Pag nakita ka nila ang laki-laki ng salamin mo, so hindi sila makatawad.”
Michael also reflected on his humble beginnings in Catbalogan, Samar, where he grew up with limited resources. His sister, Myla, recalled how Michael’s creativity flourished at a young age, using blankets and paper dolls to design clothes.
After graduating in Manila, Michael moved to Saudi Arabia in 1993 and later relocated to Dubai in 1997, where he built his fashion empire, starting with royal clients.
Despite his international fame, Michael credits his success to hard work and faith, a lesson he learned from his mother. His advice to aspiring designers: “If you work hard, then dreams will happen.”
