Metro Manila crime rate drops by 10% in December, NCRPO reports

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced a 10.62% decrease in crime volume in Metro Manila last December, with 9,227 incidents recorded compared to 10,323 in November.

NCRPO Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin highlighted significant reductions in murder cases (10.71%), homicide (30.77%), and motorcycle theft (50%). He attributed the decline to effective crime prevention strategies and proactive law enforcement measures.

Police apprehended 1,248 wanted persons last month, including 548 identified as most wanted fugitives. Aberin emphasized that these arrests are key to strengthening trust between the police and the community.

The NCRPO also ramped up its anti-drug operations, arresting 1,120 individuals and confiscating 14.99 kilos of shabu and marijuana worth P63.83 million. Additionally, anti-gambling efforts resulted in 2,272 arrests and the seizure of P554,874 in bets.

In preparation for the upcoming May elections, authorities recovered 212 unlicensed firearms during 198 operations aimed at enhancing public safety.
