Most people go to a hotel gym to squeeze in a workout before breakfast. Few realize that the person behind that space might also be a licensed nurse, a scuba diver, and a Guinness World Record holder.
Kristoff B. Lazaga has spent the last 15 years building a career at the intersection of fitness, hospitality, and purpose. Now serving as Recreation Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai Business Bay, he has turned what is often seen as a supporting department into a platform for impact — inside the hotel and far beyond it.

Raising the bar in hotel wellness
Recognition followed the work. Kristoff was named Fitness & Recreation Person of the Year by Hotelier Middle East in 2023, earned a Silver Award at the Middle East Hospitality Excellence Awards the same year, and returned in 2025 to take home Gold as Spa & Fitness Champion of the Year. In 2024, he was shortlisted in the top 10 out of 1,500 nominations for the same regional title. In 2025, he also became a Guinness World Record holder, playing a key role in securing his company’s first Guinness World Records® award.
But awards alone don’t explain his influence.
“I demonstrate exceptional leadership by inspiring teams, fostering collaboration, and consistently setting high standards of performance,” he says. His approach to service is rooted in detail and consistency — making sure guests leave not just satisfied, but energized.
Wellness as a shared responsibility
Inside the hotel, Kristoff’s leadership is hands-on. He organizes initiatives such as Operation Shape Up, Team Cycle Ride, STEPS Challenge, and Wake and Shake, while actively participating in the annual Dubai Fitness Challenge. The goal is simple: make health a shared culture rather than a personal afterthought.
“I inspire colleagues, guests, and the wider community through a strong commitment to health, wellness, and leading by example,” he explains.
The ripple effect is visible. “Since I began leading wellness initiatives, I’ve seen a remarkable shift in both team and guest engagement,” he says. “Colleagues are more motivated to adopt healthy habits, participate in activities, and support each other, while guests frequently express appreciation for the positive, energetic environment.” Testimonials on LinkedIn, company social media pages, and TripAdvisor often mention him by name.
Beyond the hotel walls

Kristoff’s work extends beyond treadmills and training sessions. He has actively participated in environmental clean-ups and supported Red Cross initiatives. One of the most notable efforts was contributing to a Guinness World Records® initiative for the largest underwater clean-up — a cause that combined his credentials as a licensed scuba diver with his commitment to environmental stewardship.
“These contributions have directly benefited both the local community and the broader environment,” he says, pointing to cleaner public spaces, protected marine ecosystems, and support for vulnerable populations through relief efforts.
In his own words, he is “a License Nurse, a License Fitness Instructor, a License Scuba Diver and a Hospitality Leader dedicated to creating engaging, safe, and meaningful experiences for our guests and team.” For Kristoff, recreation is not an amenity — it’s a vehicle for wellbeing, teamwork, and social responsibility.
