Meet Aboodi: The Emirati teen who captivates TikTok with Filipino songs and dance craze

In Dubai, some Arabs have developed a love for Filipino music, embracing its melodies and rhythms. Among them is Abdulla Bin Haider, affectionately known as “Aboodi” on TikTok. This 17-year-old Emirati has become a sensation for his unique performances, where he sings and dances to popular Filipino songs while wearing his traditional Muslim kandura.

Aboodi’s journey into Filipino music began with his learning support assistant, Ms. Marlyn, who has been teaching him Tagalog songs since he was seven years old.

“My first Tagalog songs were ‘Bahay Kubo’ and ‘May Tatlong Bibe’,” he shares with The Global Filipino Magazine.

Recently, Aboodi went viral for his heartfelt rendition of “At Ang Hirap” by Angeline Quinto at a local event. Following this, his performances of BINI’s “Salamin Salamin” and the “Pantropiko” dance craze have also garnered significant attention on TikTok.

“I really enjoy the dance steps and love the beat,” he says, expressing his enthusiasm for these popular Filipino songs.

The Filipino community in Dubai has warmly embraced Aboodi’s performances.

“I feel happy and excited to dance to Filipino songs with kabayan in our home. They motivated, inspired me, and gave me confidence that I can do it! Happy lang po kami,” he shares with a smile.

His participation in school events, especially International Day, further strengthened his connection to Filipino culture.

Aboodi’s favorite Filipino song is “Maghihintay Ako” by Jonalyn Viray, which holds a special place in his heart.

“Every time Kuya Richard goes to the Philippines for vacation, I feel sad. I treat him like my father,” he explains.

His admiration extends to artists like Ariel Rivera, Ogie Alcasid, Carol Banawa, Andrew E, Angeline Quinto, and Jonalyn Viray. He also loves performing “Mahal Naman Kita” by Morissette Amon.

A message to fans

To his Filipino fans and followers, Aboodi expresses his heartfelt gratitude: “Maraming salamat po. Thanks for always supporting me. I want you to know how much I love you all and your music! My heart is filled with joy every time you see me. I really appreciate you all! Shukran.”
