Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea is now recovering after undergoing a successful heart procedure in the Netherlands, Senator Bong Go confirmed on Saturday, March 22.
Go shared in a Facebook post that Medialdea had been hospitalized for several days in The Hague but has since been discharged. However, he will remain in the Netherlands for another six weeks as doctors have not yet cleared him for travel.
Go expressed gratitude on behalf of Medialdea to Filipinos who prayed for his recovery. “Nagpapasalamat rin siya sa mga kababayan nating nagdasal at patuloy na nagdarasal para sa kalusugan ni Atty. Medialdea,” Go said.
Medialdea was rushed to a hospital on March 18 after being taken out of The Hague Penitentiary Institution on a stretcher. He was in the country to support former President Rodrigo Duterte, who was arrested on March 11 upon arrival from Hong Kong and flown to the Netherlands.
Medialdea represented Duterte during his initial appearance before the International Criminal Court (ICC), where the former president faces charges of crimes against humanity over his controversial war on drugs.
Go also called on Filipinos to continue praying for Duterte’s health, safety, and freedom. The ICC has scheduled the next hearing to confirm charges against Duterte on September 23.
