Mary Jane Veloso reportedly being targeted by fellow inmates, family appeals for release

Mary Jane Veloso’s family has raised concerns over her safety inside the Women’s Correctional facility, claiming she is being targeted by fellow inmates.

According to a report from Frontline Pilipinas, Veloso herself informed her family about the situation, revealing that she was recently transferred from a solo cell to a larger shared cell where she is allegedly being singled out.

Migrante Deputy Secretary General Josefina Pingkihan confirmed these claims, stating, “She used to have a solo cell, but now she has been moved to a larger one with many other inmates.”

Veloso’s family has once again appealed to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to grant her release, emphasizing that the Indonesian government has already left the final decision in the hands of Philippine authorities.

“Mr. President, please free my sister. The Indonesian government has already entrusted the decision to you. We beg you, please release her,” Veloso’s sibling pleaded.

The family remains deeply worried, not just for her well-being, but for her safety inside the facility.

Previously, President Marcos stated that Veloso’s case requires thorough review before any final decision on her fate can be made. Veloso returned to the Philippines on December 18, 2024, after spending 14 years in an Indonesian prison, where she was sentenced to death on drug-related charges.
