Maris Racal has announced her breakup with former Rivermaya vocalist Rico Blanco, more than three years after confirming their relationship in 2021, according to ABS-CBN News.
Earlier this year, Maris shared in Dr. Vicky Belo’s vlog that her admiration for Rico began in her childhood. She and her older siblings were fans of Rico, especially her brother who had a band. Rico transitioned from being her idol to her crush and ideal guy. She often mentioned wanting a younger version of him when asked about her ideal partner. Interestingly, Maris used to post on her private Facebook account, asking God for a younger version of Rico, unaware that she would eventually date the real Rico Blanco.
Their connection began when Maris was in her early 20s, making strides in the entertainment industry. While her acting career was flourishing, she sought to advance her music career by writing songs and looking for artists to collaborate with. Each time she composed a song, she thought, “Oh my God, magugustuhan ‘to ni Rico!”
In 2018, Maris tweeted about looking for a creativity partner for her music. Although many artists responded, she was focused on Rico and succeeded in getting his attention. They set a meeting date, and Maris was thrilled as her manifestation was coming true. She visited Rico’s house with her father, filled with excitement to play her music for him. Rico liked one of her songs, “Abot Langit,” and agreed to collaborate with her.
Their professional relationship took a romantic turn after Rico invited Maris to a musical play. Although she initially declined, they later met at an event organized by their mutual friend, Rambo Nuñez. This encounter sparked their romantic relationship. They kept their romance a secret for two years to avoid affecting Maris’ career, enjoying their time together privately. Their first date was in Las Vegas, Nevada, where Rico followed Maris during a work commitment.
In 2021, Maris decided to publicize their relationship during the pandemic. Speculations arose when she posted a candid photo of Rico and a video of them jamming to Aqualung’s “Brighter Than Sunshine” on Instagram with the caption, “hi rico. happy birthday.”
Now, more than three years after their public confirmation, Maris has announced their breakup, marking the end of their romantic journey.
