Marine creatures cling to plastic waste in Batangas waters

An underwater photographer captured striking images of an octopus, a seahorse, and a nautilus clinging to plastic waste, including candy wrappers and toothbrushes, in the waters of Janao Bay, Anilao, Batangas.

According to a GMA News report, photographer Jones Wayne took the photos on January 25, highlighting the growing plastic pollution in marine ecosystems.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme, an estimated 75 to 199 million tonnes of plastic are currently in the world’s oceans. Meanwhile, data from Climate Impacts Tracker Asia shows that the Philippines contributes 36% of the world’s ocean plastic waste.
