Amidst public backlash, actress and TV host Mariel Rodriguez has issued a sincere apology following criticism for receiving IV therapy inside her husband Senator Robin Padilla’s office. Rodriguez clarified that the drip she received was vitamin C, not glutathione as previously reported.
The controversy erupted when Rodriguez posted, then promptly deleted, photos of her drip session at the Senate, igniting a firestorm of criticism. Filipino netizens swiftly condemned her actions as “disrespectful.” Senator Nancy Binay, echoing public sentiment, called for an investigation, citing concerns about conduct and health safety.
Medical experts also weighed in, expressing grave concerns over Rodriguez’s purported benefits of the treatment. The Department of Health and the FDA have previously cautioned against the use of glutathione IV drips for skin whitening.
In her statement, Rodriguez explained her intentions, stating, “Despite my busy schedule, I wanted to prioritize my health while showing support for my husband’s work.” She emphasized her apology was not meant to undermine the Senate’s integrity, adding, “It was never my intention to malign nor undermine the integrity and dignity of the Senate.”
Senator Padilla also expressed regret, stating, “It was never my wife’s intention to disregard the policies of the medical bureau.” He assured the public that such an incident would not recur.
Senator Binay underscored the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the lack of notification and proper medical advice for the session. She remarked, “This incident underscores the importance of adhering to protocols and ensuring the safety and decorum within the Senate premises.”
