Marcos wants Villar-owned PrimeWater checked over water problems

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed a formal investigation into PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. following widespread complaints about poor water service in areas under the company’s coverage.

The call for scrutiny comes amid growing public dissatisfaction with the Villar-owned utility firm, particularly in parts of Bulacan where local officials have urged the national government to step in and revoke joint venture agreements with water districts due to frequent supply issues.

“Ang kakulangan sa serbisyo ay walang puwang sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Marcos Jr.,” said Palace Press Officer Claire Castro during a Malacañang briefing. She stressed that water service is not merely a business but a vital public need that must be handled with care.

PrimeWater, which is owned by the Villar family, operates in several areas across the Philippines, including Batangas, Cavite, Pampanga, Pangasinan, and Subic. The company has yet to issue a statement on the matter.

The controversy comes as Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar, daughter of the Villar family, campaigns for a Senate seat under the administration’s Alyansa slate, with support from Vice President Sara Duterte.
