President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to elect candidates who are committed to working for the country rather than just making promises. Speaking at a campaign rally for the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas in Bulacan on Friday, he urged voters to support individuals who have experience in governance and a strong track record of public service.
Marcos emphasized that his endorsed candidates understand their roles and responsibilities in government, highlighting the importance of action over rhetoric. “These are people who don’t just talk—they work. That is what matters,” he said in a GMA News Online report.
Taking a swipe at political opponents, Marcos warned against candidates who focus only on talking without delivering results. “Let’s not listen to those who just talk and talk. We should elect those who actually get things done,” he added.
The President also underscored that his chosen candidates would work in the Senate to pass meaningful legislation rather than engage in unnecessary conflicts. “They are there to unite and create laws that will benefit the people, not to cause disruption,” he said.
The rally in vote-rich Bulacan, home to over 2.1 million registered voters, was attended by several prominent politicians, including former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, and Senators Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla, and Francis Tolentino. Former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, ex-Senators Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, and House Deputy Speaker Camille Villar were also present.
Meanwhile, during a separate press conference, the senatorial candidates shared their thoughts on Marcos’ campaign promise to lower rice prices to ₱20 per kilo. Lacson acknowledged the challenge of achieving this target, saying it would be difficult but that getting close to it would already be a significant achievement. Sotto, on the other hand, suggested that buying rice directly from local farmers could help bring prices down.
Makati Mayor Abby Binay emphasized the need for increased government investment in irrigation to improve food security and support local farmers. “We need to allocate more funds for irrigation to maximize agricultural lands and reduce reliance on imported food,” she said.
The candidates also addressed concerns over the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) project in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Senator Tolentino noted that the railway would help ease traffic congestion, particularly along Commonwealth Avenue. Villar, meanwhile, called the project a model for decongesting Metro Manila and accelerating economic growth in other parts of the country.
