President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on the newest graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) to choose honor and do what is right, even when no one is watching, during the 46th Commencement Exercises held Tuesday at Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.
Speaking before the 206 graduates of the “Sinaglawin” Class of 2025, Marcos recognized their transformation from uncertain cadets into full-fledged police lieutenants. “A few years ago, you arrived at the gates of the PNPA as young and perhaps unsure individuals. But now, you exit those same gates as full-fledged police lieutenants,” he said, adding that their journey had been anything but easy.
This year’s graduating class made history as the first to be fully commissioned as lieutenants of the Philippine National Police (PNP), following the full implementation of Republic Act 11279. The law placed the PNPA directly under the PNP, ending the practice of assigning graduates to the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
Marcos also reminded the new officers of the challenges ahead, cautioning them against temptations that could compromise their principles. He emphasized the importance of staying true to their oath, defending the Constitution, and serving the Filipino people with dignity.
While stressing that the country does not expect them to be flawless, he underscored the need for their visible presence in enforcing the law. “Your coming this far tells me and the entire Filipino nation that you are ready and that you are prepared. Congratulations to all of you!” Marcos said.
