Marcos urges Filipinos to put nation first as Rizal Day is observed

As the country marks Rizal Day on December 30, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to translate patriotism into daily conduct by choosing the national good over personal gain.

The President said the ideals associated with José Rizal continue to offer direction for both leaders and citizens, particularly as public trust is tested. He stressed that these principles should guide decisions not only in public service but also in private life.

“Today, as Filipinos demand integrity and accountability from its leaders, we look up to his life to provide us with guidance and strength,” the President said.

Marcos underscored the relevance of Rizal’s teachings amid ongoing debates tied to the use of public funds, noting that the hero’s legacy remains instructive during periods of national controversy.

“Let our celebration deepen our resolve to live by the values he embodied: love of country, respect for truth, a tireless pursuit of just reform, and the courage to speak and act for what is right,” he added.

He also said that honoring the national hero should be accompanied by a shared sense of justice felt by every Filipino.
