President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is not alarmed by the concerns over the country’s education system following a viral moment on It’s Showtime, where a contestant admitted unfamiliarity with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), according to Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro.
During a Palace briefing on Thursday, Castro was asked if the administration saw the clip as a cause for concern. She clarified that the government is continuously working to improve the education system.
Castro also dismissed the idea that one person’s lack of knowledge reflects the failure of the government’s education efforts.
She emphasized that individuals have the means to educate themselves, particularly with the accessibility of online resources.
“Kung may pagkakamali or pagkukulang ang isa ay maaari naman niyang i-level up iyong kaniyang sarili lalung-lalo na marami na po tayong mapag-aaralan through the internet, using Google search, and lahat ng maaari nating i-search using the computer system,” Castro said.
Earlier this week, It’s Showtime hosts addressed the contestant’s response, noting it as part of a “systemic and educational problem.” The segment sparked discussions online about the state of public awareness on civic matters.
