President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to thoroughly review several newly refiled measures in Congress, including the proposed divorce law, a bill banning political dynasties, and legislation regulating minors’ access to social media.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro confirmed that the President has not yet taken an official stance on the divorce bill. She emphasized the need for a detailed study of the measure’s contents, especially its alignment with existing legal grounds for separation.
“Sa ngayon po ay wala pa pong klarong stance ang Pangulo patungkol sa Divorce Bill,” Castro said, adding that it’s important to examine whether the bill merely expands on the existing provisions for legal separation or goes beyond them.
When asked whether the President might support the measure, Castro noted that it would largely depend on the bill’s specifics and how the Church responds to it. “Kapag po maganda iyong provisions… maaari po itong bigyan nang magandang tugon ng Pangulo,” she said.
On the topic of political dynasties, Castro said Marcos will also review the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act, which aims to prohibit family members from simultaneously holding or seeking elective posts. The Palace official said it would be premature to give a definitive position without seeing the full text of the bill. “Mas maganda pong maibigay iyong pinakadetalye,” she explained.
The President is also paying close attention to legislation affecting the welfare of the youth. Castro responded to questions about Senator Panfilo Lacson’s proposal to restrict social media use among minors, citing its potential impact on mental health.
“Kung ito po talaga ay magko-cause ng mental health issues, sususugan din po ng Pangulo iyan… basta po ito ay para sa taumbayan at lalung-lalo na para sa kabataan,” she said.
The Palace maintained that President Marcos remains open to supporting measures that serve the public interest, particularly those that safeguard the well-being of future generations.
