Marcos says no discussions yet on PH rejoining ICC

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has not made any move toward rejoining the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Castro said the matter has not been discussed, and when the President was personally asked about it, he simply smiled and confirmed that no talks have taken place.

The Philippines formally exited the ICC in 2019, after the international tribunal began investigating the Duterte administration’s controversial war on drugs.

Earlier this month, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for former President Rodrigo Duterte for alleged crimes against humanity. Duterte is now in ICC custody in The Hague, with his confirmation hearing scheduled for September 23. President Marcos has previously said the country will abide by its obligations with Interpol regarding Duterte’s arrest.
