President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reiterated his commitment to finish the Metro Manila Subway Project before his term ends in 2028, calling on all stakeholders to fast-track construction for the benefit of millions of commuters.
Marcos made the statement during his inspection of the Camp Aguinaldo Station on Wednesday, where he also led the launch of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (CP103), which will carve out the tunnel section toward Ortigas Station in Mandaluyong.
“We might finish this by 2028; maybe we can inaugurate it in 2028,” he told reporters. “Everyone has agreed that we really need to speed things up so that commuting becomes more comfortable for our commuters.”
Spanning 33 kilometers with 17 stations, the country’s first underground railway will connect Valenzuela City to Parañaque City. Once operational, the subway is expected to reduce travel time between Valenzuela and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from two hours to just 40 minutes.
One critical segment of the subway passes beneath the Corinthian Properties in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City. The 850-meter tunnel segment lies between Camp Aguinaldo and Ortigas stations, reaching depths of 19 to 39 meters. It affects 69 parcels of privately owned land — several of which are still undergoing acquisition through subterranean right-of-way procedures.
