President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. distributed P21 million in financial aid to families affected by a massive fire in Tondo, Manila, last weekend.
During his visit to the Delpan Evacuation Center in Barangay 29, where some displaced residents are staying, Marcos personally handed out P10,000 each to 2,100 fire victims. Additional assistance included food packs, blankets, and sleeping mats provided by the Office of the President.
“Hindi po tayo titigil at gagawin natin lahat para tulungan kayo,” Marcos assured the victims, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their recovery.
The aid, implemented under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, was distributed in coordination with local officials.
Marcos also vowed that national and local governments would work closely to address the victims’ needs and promised a Christmas party if their housing issues are not resolved by the holidays.
The November 24 fire in Isla Puting Bato, Barangay 20, Zone 2, left over 2,100 families or nearly 7,000 individuals homeless, with damage estimated at P3.5 million. While no fatalities were reported, two residents sustained injuries. The Bureau of Fire Protection declared the fire under control by late afternoon after deploying 30 fire trucks.
Prior to the President’s visit, the Manila city government had already extended P10,000 in financial aid to each affected family.
