Marcos pledges continued support for OFWs and their families

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippine government’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families during the 2024 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas held on Wednesday.

Marcos highlighted his administration’s initiatives to safeguard OFWs, including strengthening labor agreements with other countries, combating illegal recruitment and human trafficking, and utilizing the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga Overseas Filipino Workers na Nangangailangan Fund. He also emphasized the role of the One Repatriation Command Center in maintaining open communication with migrant workers and ensuring the safe return of those affected by crises.

“Our embassies and consulates abroad remain vigilant in looking after Filipinos worldwide,” Marcos said, adding that the government fosters cooperation with nations that host Filipino workers.

The president also recognized the awardees for their outstanding achievements and contributions to their communities and the nation. “Your accomplishments enhance the quality of life in your respective communities, both here and abroad,” Marcos remarked.

The biennial Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas honors exceptional overseas Filipinos and foreign individuals or organizations who advance the welfare of OFWs, support national development, and elevate the global profile of the Filipino diaspora.
