Marcos inspects flood mitigation works in Naga, meets Robredo

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Naga City on Saturday to review flood control efforts being carried out along one of its major waterways, where he was received by former vice president Leni Robredo.

The inspection centered on Sagop Creek in Barangay Triangulo, where Marcos was accompanied by Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon. The site forms part of the national government’s Oplan Kontra Baha, a program designed to curb flooding through immediate, ground-level measures.

Implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways, the initiative targets critical areas prone to repeated inundation. In Naga, attention has been placed on a 10-kilometer stretch of Sagop Creek, a water channel that local authorities closely track because of its impact on nearby communities.

The creek cuts across five barangays — Del Rosario, Concepcion Grande, Concepcion Pequeña, Triangulo, and Tabuco — neighborhoods situated near the Bicol River Basin catchment. Their location has made them especially susceptible to rising water levels during heavy rains.
