Marcos highlights faith and unity in Feast of Jesus Nazareno observance

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday joined the Catholic faithful in celebrating the Feast of Jesus Nazareno, emphasizing the strength and solidarity the event represents among Filipinos.

Marcos reflected on the historic tradition, noting its role in reminding people of the sacrifice of Christ and the enduring compassion of God. “Carrying the image of Jesus Nazareno and His cross reminds us of the great sacrifice our Lord went through. It also speaks of the immense power and compassion of God who walks with us and hears our prayers,” he said.

He described the annual gathering in Manila as a powerful demonstration of Filipino camaraderie and urged the public to confront challenges with faith and grace. Marcos also called on Filipinos to extend kindness and empathy to those in need.

The day’s highlight, the Traslacion, began at 4:41 a.m. as the image of Jesus Nazareno departed from Quirino Grandstand in Manila. The procession, which will end at Quiapo Church, was temporarily slowed by devotees climbing the andas, or carriage, bearing the image, according to police reports.

Marcos expressed his belief that Filipinos embody the example of Jesus Nazareno daily, serving as hope bearers and builders of a peaceful society.
