President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extended his appreciation to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) currently staying at the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) Bahay Kalinga in Al Khobar, with his message personally delivered by his cousin, Nina Romualdez, on August 15.
In his message, the President lauded the courage and resilience of migrant workers who continue to fight challenges abroad. “Saludo sa inyo ang Pangulo, kaya naman para sa kaniya walang ibang mas mahalaga kaysa sa inyong kaligtasan na kahit na sa gitna ng disyerto, may mga taong pupunta at pupunta sa inyo,” Romualdez read on his behalf.
Sixteen distressed OFWs — eight women and eight men — are set to return home to the Philippines on August 18 after successfully obtaining their exit visas.
Officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) assured that the repatriated workers will receive immediate cash assistance through the AKSYON Fund and Emergency Repatriation Fund, along with luggage and grocery packages as additional support.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) committed to providing reintegration opportunities, with Assistant Secretary Ada Colico offering livelihood programs to help the returning OFWs rebuild their lives back home.
