Boxing icon and former Senator Manny Pacquiao has officially announced his candidacy for the Senate in the upcoming 2025 elections. In an ambush interview, Pacquiao confirmed his political bid under the banner of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the political party of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
“Yes, yes… [Under] PFP,” Pacquiao stated when questioned about his political affiliation.
Pacquiao, who ranked third in the May 2022 presidential race won by Marcos, has a long history in Philippine politics. He began his political career over a decade ago by serving as a congressman in his home province of Sarangani in 2010, all while maintaining his active professional boxing career. After three years as a congressman, he was re-elected and later became a senator in 2016.
The only boxer to claim eight world titles across as many weight classes, Pacquiao’s political journey adds another chapter to his storied legacy. He remains the first fighter to secure the lineal championship in five different weight divisions.
Pacquiao’s decision to once again enter the political arena underscores his commitment to serving the Filipino people, both in and out of the boxing ring.
