The City of Manila is gearing up for a grand parade to honor gymnast Carlos Yulo following his historic double gold win at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that the hero’s welcome will commence on Leveriza Street in Malate, where Yulo grew up. “The Manila City Hall is planning a hero’s parade for Caloy Yulo. We will announce the date and route once we have coordinated with Caloy’s team,” Lacuna said in a statement.
The proposed parade route will begin on Leveriza Street, passing through areas near Malacañang and the University Belt, and will conclude at Manila City Hall. Mayor Lacuna also mentioned that Yulo will be honored with cash incentives, recognitions, and other rewards from the city government.
The local government is coordinating with the Department of Education to ensure students can personally witness the parade.
Carlos Yulo’s double gold win marks the Philippines’ second Olympic gold medal, following weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz’s triumph in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 24-year-old gymnast secured gold in both the men’s floor exercise and vault finals.
In addition to city honors, Yulo is expected to receive various incentives, including cash, a house and lot, and pledges from private companies for his outstanding achievements.
