The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) responded to concerns regarding a bed bug infestation at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals 2 and 3. Following reports on social media about passengers being bitten by bed bugs, the MIAA assured the public on Wednesday evening that they are actively addressing the issue.
Social media users raised alarms on Facebook group DIY Travel Philippines, warning others about the presence of bed bugs at the two NAIA terminals. Confirming receipt of these reports, the MIAA acknowledged instances of individuals claiming to have been bitten by bed bugs at the terminals. In response, the authority has removed the seats identified in these reports and initiated ongoing disinfection measures.
MIAA General Manager Eric Ines promptly directed terminal managers to investigate the infestation and provide recommendations for resolving the issue. Additionally, comprehensive facility inspections and heightened sanitation protocols have been mandated to prevent further incidents.
Apologizing to affected passengers, the MIAA assured them of a swift resolution while stating that two victims have received medical assistance from MIAA medical teams.
