In an effort to combat the rising dengue cases in Mandaluyong City, Barangay Addition Hills has launched a unique initiative, offering residents a P1 reward for every mosquito or larva they catch or kill.
According to a GMA News Online report, citing the Barangay Chairman, the reward system aims to encourage community participation in reducing mosquito populations as dengue cases continue to rise since the start of 2025. Captured mosquitoes and larvae will be collected in an aquarium prepared by the local government before being destroyed.
The initiative will officially begin on Friday, February 21.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health continues to urge the public to follow the 5S strategy against dengue: Search and destroy breeding places, Secure self-protection, Seek early consultation, Support fogging in hotspot areas, and Sustain hydration.
Infectious disease expert Dr. Rontgene Solante also advised individuals experiencing dengue symptoms—such as high fever, rashes, vomiting, and stomach pain—to seek medical attention immediately.
